　　What can artificial intelligence do when it is considered invincible? What can artificial intelligence still not do in the relatively long future? On the afternoon of August 29th, Li Deyi, an academician of China Academy of Engineering, Eurasian Academy of Sciences and chairman of China Artificial Intelligence Society, gave a keynote speech on the topic "Why is artificial intelligence not conscious yet?".

　　Li Deyi’s first question is the biological attribute of consciousness. There are three kinds of consciousness, the first level of primary consciousness is called perceptual consciousness, the higher level is called self-consciousness, and the higher level is called group consciousness.

　　The biological basis of consciousness is the clear boundary perception ability of biological individuals from brain neurons to terminal brain, which must separate me from the non-self environment. Li Deyi cited how difficult it is to make artificial skin, which includes seven functions: body temperature, self-protection, induction, metabolism, absorption, breathing, secretion and excretion.

Li Deyi gave a keynote speech at the forum.

　　Li Deyi mentioned that when the human body surface is stimulated, it is only a few tenths of a square meter, so you should feel it and take measures. More than that, the total transmission from the skin nerve endings of the body to the whole brain leads to a period of 150 thousand kilometers and milliseconds. He believes that there is a long time to make such artificial skin artificially, and it may take another hundred years. That is to say, it will take about one hundred years to distinguish me from non-me.

　　As far as higher consciousness is concerned, memory is very important. Memory can be divided into instantaneous memory, short-term memory and long-term memory, and memory is definitely not storage. Li Deyi said that instantaneous memory triggers short-term memory, short-term memory triggers long-term memory, and information stored in long-term memory forms intelligence, so high-class intelligence can consciously create new intelligence.

　　The second question, Li Deyi mentioned the social attribute of intelligence. In a typical case, two children fell into the wolf’s den and didn’t speak the language when they spoke it. Later, they couldn’t teach it back in kindergarten, which means that a good gene is not very intelligent if it is not in a good ecological environment.

　　Li Deyi said, I have the view that language, knowledge and civilization are mainly acquired, and this is the social attribute of intelligence. I wrote a book more than ten years ago, and I said in the preface: the human brain is a small universe, which is the mapping between nature and society.

　　Therefore, Li Deyi personally thinks that there are at least three pieces of human intelligence, namely, memory, calculation and interaction, which lead to human intelligence.

　　The third question, Li Deyi mentioned the correlation analysis between intelligence and consciousness.

　　Now, the formalization of computing intelligence, Go intelligence, chat intelligence and driving intelligence is well done, even surpassing human intelligence, and artificial intelligence can exist without consciousness. Li Deyi said, I personally think that artificial intelligence is an extension of human intelligence, which can exist without consciousness.

　　"As the creator of robots, humans don’t need machines to be conscious. Why do we have to have machines to be conscious? How good is it to be one of our tools? As long as we can drive, do math problems and serve our people according to our needs, isn’t it? I believe that human beings are smart enough to control the machine without consciousness. "

　　At the end of his speech, Li Deyi said that the evolutionary history of human beings is to make and use tools to expand the history of human development. No matter from sickles and axes to the present atomic bombs, we are solving the problem that matter and energy are both power tools, power tools are an off-topic extension of human physical fitness, while artificial intelligence is an off-topic extension of human intelligence, and both power tools and intelligent tools are unconscious.

　　As for the biggest impact of the era of artificial intelligence, a new species that surpasses human beings suddenly appears on the earth. Are these future lives human friends or natural enemies? Li Deyi said that it is too early to draw a conclusion at present. To say the least, even if we create such skin in the future and can distinguish physical boundary perception, there are two other conditions to confront us humans, namely, they have their own language and writing.
